ATC Digital Upgrade - Randwick and Rosehill
MEDIA & TECH
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in NSW, Media & Tech in collaboration with PMY Group, ATC, and CID embarked on the ambitious task of creating a world-class digital experience at two of Australia's most prestigious racecourses, Royal Randwick and Rosehill Gardens.
CID was engaged to design, supply and install all 375m of support structure for the LED signage, and was also responsible for installation of over 600m2 of LED panels. The end result would include not one, but two of the World's Longest Racetrack Screens, creating an unrivaled race-day experience for members and patrons.

Project Scope
P10 LED was specified to replace existing static signage and create a dynamic display with endless opportunities for spectator interaction and creative content.
In total CID installed approx. 375 linear metres of LED and support structure across the 2 venues, equating to a massive 615m2 of LED.

Site analysis
Thorough site analysis was a crucial first step to ensure the successful outcome of the project. CID worked closely with Geotechnical Engineers during sampling and analysis of the ground conditions to devise a suitable footing design.
A detailed feature and level survey was also undertaken to document site contours and fixtures, including scanning for underground services using electromagnetic tracing and ground penetrating radar.
Structural engineering
CID was responsible for the design, drafting, and certification of all structural steel work and concrete footings. Ground conditions, wind loading, and practicality of installation and ongoing maintenance were all carefully considered during the design phase.
Using our state-of-the-art design software, we integrated 3D CAD models from each site survey with our custom designed parts and assemblies to create a complete 3D model of each site.
Access and Safety
Each site provided unique challenges for access, and great care was taken to minimise the impact of installation works on existing infrastructure.
CID carefully managed the use of all plant and heavy machinery onsite, including excavators, agitator trucks,
forklifts and crane trucks, with the safety of all workers, ATC personnel, and horses our highest priority.
Tight tolerances
The installation of fine-pitch LED leaves little margin for error, especially when working with heavy machinery and structural steel.
It is testament to CID's highly skilled construction team, rigorous planning and quality control, that all construction works were both structurally adequate, and conformed to the tight tolerances required.
Attention to Detail
The accurate installation of each LED panel was critical to maintain correct height and level of the display along such a long straight line. CID's skilled installation technicians worked closely with our team of Surveyors, and utilised GPS and laser technology to ensure the LED panels were precisely installed across the entire 154m length.
Game Changer
The installations at Royal Randwick and Rosehill Gardens Racecourses have been described by the ATC as a 'game changer' for the industry. The two venues can now offer world-class digital technology on a never before seen scale, creating an unrivaled race day experience for members and patrons.
